Quality of experience in different visual mediums

We primarily experience the world in a visual format. We see things around us and they come in all shapes and sizes. We also have visual experiences in different mediums; we could read text in a book, or see a piece of art (picture), or watch a video.

Is it fair to say that the quality of one’s experience enhances as we ‘level up’ the medium we are in?

Types of visual processing mediums

Firstly, we have text. Though text can be a great experience in the mind, visually, it seems to be a rather boring experience.

If we go beyond text, we see images/pictures as our next way to process information. Seeing text along with pictures certainly enhances our reading experience, but a picture can also contain text, making it a parent, if you will.

We then have Video, which is a levelled up experience, and also happens to contain images and text within it.

Quality of experience over different mediums

A lot has been written about the immersive experience of virtual reality. In VR, we have a 360° environment at our disposal, which greatly enhances the immersion within it, making the experience unique and ‘dope’.

Within VR, we also get to experience the previous mediums discussed above- text, picture and video.

VR experience- includes text, photo and video.

Though we’re not there yet, BCIs (Brain Computer Interfaces) are going to open a whole new door of experiences we cannot imagine.

An person experiencing with BCIs

Try to think about you sitting in front of your laptop and just watching it do things that you’re merely thinking about.

Though this might look clunky in this picture, it certainly won’t look like this once we adopt it in our daily lives, haha.
I suspect it’d be a small portable chip that can be attacked to your neck or something when we wanna enter this mode. Similar to how we just plug in our Airpods of what have you.

The real question to think about is, what would happen after we have these peak experiences? Will this lead to a ‘Brave New World’ scenario where whatever we want is just a thought away? Like just think of booking an Uber and bam, here’s your ride?

Could reality itself be the ultimate experience?

Layers

Well, not here to conclude on anything, it’s just something that I thought about and wanted to share it across ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
